Scarborough and District Astronomical Society
This is my local Society. Their new Observatory at the Forrest Enterprise Visitor Centre, Low Dalby, Thornton Dale, was officially opened by Sir Patrick Moore on the 16th September 2001. Visitors and members of the public are welcome on the first Friday in every month. See the SDAS page and the SDAS website for more details.
A very active society. If you live anywhere in the Leeds Bradford conurbation, it would be well worth attending a few meetings.

If you live in Australia, - this is one of your local suppliers. They have a wide range of telescopes and accessories to offer the antipodes. (And everywhere else!)
Some very good pictures and simple concise details well laid out of a large number of astronomical telescopes allowing easy comparisons. Well worth a look if you are thinking of buying a telescope but don't know where to start. You will find your way round even if you only understand English!
A Dutch site which as well as "small" telescopes also does some very big ones.
A lot of detail about complete telescopes and the various bits and accessories for the amateur making his own telescope. It contains a lot of helpful information about how to put a telescope together. Well worth having a look.
A German manufacturer of Telescopes. Well worth having a look at this site.
Another German site devoted to Astronomy. This firm makes their own range of telescopes and sells others, with plenty of accessories on offer.
One of the few "large telescope" makers in Britain, - David makes Dobsonian telescopes from his base near Nottingham. If you are after a big Dobsonian, he will be on your list.
This company is going again after moving operations over a year or so. They are specialising in extremely strong mounts which will take really big telescope tubes.
Wolfgang Grzybowski (Independent Mirror Tester)
Wolfgang is one of the best Mirror Testers using an Interferometer we know of. If you do need an Interferometer test doing of a mirror or any other optics, this person should be at or near the top of your list.

A major supplier to Oldham Optical of low expansion glass. Their Water Jet Cutter is featured on these pages.
